Excellent Result for 2008

April 29, 2009

Twence Waste and Energy can look back on 2008 as an excellent year. Thanks to various different extraordinary gains, the net result was even better than had been budgeted for last year. Those included the proceeds from sale of land fill rights and several tax windfalls. This means that – despite the emerging credit crisis – Twence managed to have a record year in 2008 with its net result of €10.5 million. The board of directors ascribe this in part to the great efforts of the employees, who besides attending to ‘normal’ business operations also had to deal with the major new construction projects.

At the Shareholders’ Meeting it was decided to add the profits to the general reserve. Shareholders will receive a total of nearly €800,000 in dividends. In the coming months, meetings will be held with Regio Twente on how Twence can contribute financially in 2009 to Regio Twente’s projects that are on the ‘Agenda of Twente’.

For 2009, the year in which the third incineration line will be put into operation, Twence anticipates the same result as in 2008, if not an even slightly higher one. That will depend in part on the unforeseeable impact that the economic crisis will have on business for Twence.

The generation of energy made up an increasing share of the total turnover in 2008. The new Biomass Power Plant made a major contribution in that regard. In 2009, the share of energy in the company’s total turnover is expected to amount to 40%.

In 2008, Twence processed more than 840,000 tonnes of waste at its Boeldershoek and Elhorst-Vloedbelt sites. Over 90% of that waste was converted into raw materials, building materials and energy.
